Animal Welfare

Since its inception, the foundation has been active in educating veterinarians and the public on animal welfare issues, including animal abuse and neglect, and published a booklet for all OVMA members on the veterinarian’s role in the recognition and documentation of animal abuse. We sponsored several Animal Care Forums that brought together veterinarians, humane shelter personnel, and animal control personnel to address the care and welfare of animals in Oregon.

For many years, the foundation has sponsored the Animal Welfare track at the Oregon Veterinary Conference, with topics including: animal neglect and abuse, equine abandonment and welfare, marine mammal welfare, veterinary hospice and euthanasia, bereavement, compassion fatigue, and the human-animal bond.
