Human-Animal Bond

The Animal Health Foundation of Oregon has several contributions to the advancement of the human-animal bond:

  • Sponsor of the Oregon Animal Hall of Fame™, a program to honor animals who, through unselfish and courageous accomplishments, exemplify the affection, loyalty, security, public service, and value of the human-animal bond. Worthy animals are honored at a ceremony held during the Oregon Veterinary Conference.
  • Sponsor of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association’s Oregon State Fair outreach booth, which has focused on such topics as pain prevention and management, awareness of toxins that can harm animals, and the human-animal bond. View the winning entries in our Human-Animal Bond Photo Contest, which was held in conjunction with the Fair.
  • Sponsor of education sessions at the Oregon Veterinary Conference and other venues for veterinarians and staff on topics such as coping with the death of a pet, and the issue of unwanted horses.
  • Ongoing sponsor of Pet Day, an annual event held in May at the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Corvallis) to honor and celebrate National Pet Week.
  • Sponsor of veterinary clinic exhibit at AC Gilbert’s Discovery Village. At this very popular exhibit, children are able to take on the role of a veterinarian and treat the animals seeking their care. From screening various animal X-rays to weighing a puppy on the scale, this exhibit allows children to participate in real-life situations to experience what it’s like to work in a veterinary clinic. AC Gilbert is a hands-on, interactive children’s museum in Salem that welcomes over 80,000 visitors each year.
  • Cosponsored the Pet Partners (formerly Delta Society’s) “People, Pet, Partnership” workshop, which certifies dogs as being qualified to visit nursing homes and retirement facilities, etc.
